Sydney Metro Powers Ahead, Transforming Connectivity and Housing

Hundreds of property industry leaders gathered today at the Property Council of Australia’s “Metro Momentum” event in Sydney, where Sydney Metro Chief Executive Peter Regan highlighted the transformative impact of the Metro network on connectivity, housing, and economic growth.

Property Council NSW Executive Director Katie Stevenson said Sydney Metro was playing a pivotal role in reshaping Sydney’s future, unlocking new housing opportunities and sparking investment in well-connected, high-density precincts across the city.

“This city-shaping infrastructure is the solution Sydney needs for sustainable growth, with Metro corridors becoming hubs for housing, community amenities, and business,” Ms Stevenson said.

“A growing Sydney needs high-frequency, reliable public transport to drive more investment in housing, and to reshape how our communities live and move around the city,” she said.

Ms Stevenson also welcomed the announcement today by Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Transport Jo Haylen and Minister for Industrial Relations Minister Sophie Cotsis on the progress being made with conversion of the Southwest Metro.

“It’s encouraging to see the Premier and his team put paid to media speculation this week that potential work bans by the Electrical Trades Union could impact the conversion delivery timetable,” Ms Stevenson said.

“In a housing crisis, every day counts. Southwest Metro will reshape how residents across the inner west and southwest live and travel, making sure more people have access to well-located homes near world-class transport infrastructure.

“It’s not just about transforming an old rail line—it’s about unlocking housing in key growth areas,” she said.

Ms Stevenson said the Property Council would continue to work with the government and industry partners to drive further investment along Sydney Metro corridors.

“Sydney Metro is a game-changing investment in Sydney’s future, creating well-planned, connected communities ready to thrive as our city grows.”
