Strong shadow cabinet appointment for housing

The Property Council of Australia congratulates Senator Katy Gallagher on her appointment to cabinet as Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness, and Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader on State and Territory Relations.

Chief Executive Ken Morrison said the Property Council worked closely with Senator Gallagher during her tenure as ACT Chief Minister and looked forward to the opportunity of doing so again.

“Senator Gallagher has a constructive, consultative style and was highly respected by industry. She has a proven track record on proactively working with the property industry to bring about reform – something that is much needed in the housing sector,” Mr Morrison said.

“Housing affordability is a priority issue in Australia and we are delighted that someone with Senator Gallagher’s deep policy understanding and leadership experience will be driving the Opposition’s housing policy.

“We provided a detailed and lengthy submission into the recent home ownership and affordable housing inquiries and look forward to working with all sides of politics to achieve the best outcomes in this critically important area.

“I also extend our gratitude to Senator McLucas for her engagement and support over many years.”
