Statement on leadership change

Policies to grow the economy and create jobs must be at the heart of the Government’s agenda.

The Property Council of Australia has congratulated Malcolm Turnbull on his ascension to the leadership of the Liberal Party and the office of Prime Minister and thanked Tony Abbott for his service to the nation.

Chief Executive Ken Morrison welcomed Mr Turnbull’s focus on the economy in his comments last night.

“Mr Abbott has been an exemplar of public service, dedicated to advancing and protecting the national interest and his efforts warrant appropriate recognition,” Mr Morrison said.

“The incoming Prime Minister has said economic leadership is central to the needs of the nation, and the Property Council wholeheartedly agrees.

“Australia is in the midst of wide-ranging tax reform, a long-overdue exercise and vitally important to Australian living standards.

“It is important that this tax reform process continue and that meaningful reform is brought to fruition for the benefit of every Australian.

“The property industry underpins the strength of Australia’s economy as the biggest contributor to GDP and the nation’s second largest direct employer.

“Mr Turnbull has a keen interest in the productivity of our cities and ensuring we manage growth in smart and innovative ways.

“The property industry looks forward to working constructively with the federal government to achieve the best outcomes for jobs, for our communities and for our cities into the future.”
