Smart growth means blending jobs, homes and infrastructureA plan to put new jobs and homes close to public transport corridors makes sense, according to the Property Council of Australia. Proposals to allow extra housing and business along the North-West Rail Link should be encouraged. “Sydney is a global city that will continue to grow – so we need smart solutions that bring jobs, homes and transport together,” NSW Executive Director Glenn Byres said today. “It makes sense to leverage substantial investment in infrastructure by creating vibrant new precincts that deliver more jobs and homes. “Improving the sustainability and productivity of our cities is a must – and urban renewal along transport corridors should be prioritised. “These are the game-changing initiatives we need to continue to implement if we’re going to radically increase housing supply and tilt the balance back in favour of homebuyers. “We hope the Government now moves swiftly to implement its plans and hope local government steps up and serves as a collaborator on these sites and projects. “The opportunity should also be used to revive plans for urban renewal in precincts like Randwick and Mascot.” Media contact: Glenn Byres, NSW Executive Director, 0419 695 435.
