Sally Capp’s election as Lord Mayor of Melbourne / Property Council appointments
This statement can be attributed to Property Council of Australia Chief Executive Ken Morrison.
Sally Capp’s election is great news for Melbourne. The city now has a champion with tremendous experience at bringing people together to achieve positive change.
On behalf of our members, Victorian Division President Roger Teale and I wish Sally every success and thank her warmly for her tireless contribution to a prosperous and liveable Victoria.
Sally took leave without pay for the duration of the campaign and has now formally resigned from the Property Council.
New national policy and advocacy chief
I am pleased to announce that Mike Zorbas, who successfully stepped in as Victorian Executive Director during Sally’s leave, has accepted the national role of Group Executive, Policy and Advocacy.
This role assists me as the national steward of our policy and advocacy programs including leadership of our teams responsible for Federal parliamentary engagement, Sustainability, Capital Markets, Risk, and the Residential Development and Retirement Living Councils. The role has been vacant since Glenn Byres’ departure in March.
Mike has previously held senior roles at Lendlease, Stockland and the Property Council among others, as well as being a board member of several national think tanks. Mike will be based in our Melbourne office.
Commencement of search process for new Victorian Executive Director
Deputy Executive Director Matthew Kandelaars will be Acting Victorian Executive Director while we recruit for Sally’s replacement.
Matthew has previously held senior roles in the Victorian and South Australian governments, including as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Premier of South Australia and, prior to that, advised public and private sector clients on some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects. We appreciate Matthew stepping up to the role during the search period.
The role of Executive Director is the voice for an industry that employs more than 330,000 people in Victoria, more than manufacturing and mining combined. The successful candidate will be an important voice in the public policy debates about Victoria’s future and how best to plan for a prosperous, liveable and affordable city.
The executive search for a new Victorian Executive Director will commence immediately.
