Resident well-being focus for WA Village Manager of the Year

A positive and supportive relationship with village residents has led to national recognition for Glynis McEwan, the manager of the Ashlar Glen retirement village in Dianella in the City of Stirling.

Glynis will represent Western Australia as finalist for the Programmed Award for Village Manager of the Year, to be presented at the National Retirement Living Awards in Canberra on 29 November 2018.

Ashlar Glen Village is operated by Masonic Care WA and is home to 99 residents in a mix of lease for life and social housing units, which share the same common facilities including a clubhouse, library, bowling green, swimming pool and gymnasium.

With her extensive background in the aged care and retirement living industry, Glynis has demonstrated the experience, knowledge and commitment to connect with residents and their families so their needs can be understood and catered for. She has arranged a variety of speakers and services to visit village residents to address their interests and needs on issues ranging from personal safety and security through to first aid, health and well-being and aged care services.

Glynis has worked with residents on various initiatives, including obtaining funding grants to improve village facilities and the refurbishment of the village clubhouse. She has consulted closely with residents on village services and safety issues, including fire emergency planning, given the village’s proximity to the Breckler Park bushland.

She has also worked with village residents on building a strong, happy and harmonious community spirit, with monthly dinners and events for special occasions which are also an opportunity to involve the wider community including local councillors and MPs.

The Programmed Award for Village Manager of the Year is part of the National Retirement Living Awards, which recognises the contribution and achievements across all areas of the retirement living sector by the people and companies helping ensure senior Australians have an enjoyable retirement.

As the WA finalist, Glynis will receive a trophy, and a $200 gift voucher from Programmed Property Services. The voucher will be presented at a morning tea hosted by Programmed at the village.
