Regional mainstreets tour continues next monthThe Property Council of Australia will next month continue its Regional Mainstreets tour, highlighting their vital role in stimulating local economies. “The next stop on our Regional Mainstreets agenda is Gawler, the Barossa Valley and Riverland regions,” said SA Executive Director of the Property Council Daniel Gannon. “The social, cultural and economic sustainability of mainstreets play an important role in defining our towns, cities and communities. “The Property Council has compiled a step-by-step guide for local governments, state governments, retailers, property owners, planners, designers and community groups – it spells out strategies for keeping our mainstreets’ active and competitive.” Covering six sections, from strategic planning to techniques for engaging with social media and the digital economy, this Guide draws on national and international best practice examples to inspire and enliven our mainstreets. “South Australia extends beyond the four terraces of the CBD – that’s why it’s important to recognise the vital role our regional economies play in our state’s future prosperity,” said Mr Gannon. “And this is where regional mainstreets in Gawler, the Barossa Valley and Riverland regions come into the equation. “Every place has a combination of economic, environmental, social, cultural and physical attributes, and the importance of each type of attribute will naturally vary. “At a time when our state needs both job creation and economic growth, we need to ensure that the right strategic frameworks are in place – this approach applies to regional mainstreets as the heartbeat of local communities. “The Property Council encourages all communities – metropolitan and regional – to put some of our recommendations to the test on your local mainstreet. “After all, the strength of the property industry directly affects more than 0,000 South Australians who collectively own major segments of the state’s most valuable commercial property assets through their superannuation funds.” Mr Gannon will visit Gawler, the Barossa Valley and Riverland regions on Monday 8 December.
