Queensland’s inaugural People in Property Awards winners

The winners of the inaugural Queensland People in Property Awards were announced on Friday night (10 May 2024) at a special gala awards dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Property Council of Australia Queensland Executive Director Jess Caire said more than 300 people were on hand to celebrate the best and brightest in Queensland’s property industry.

“Queensland’s property industry is about so much more than bricks and mortar; it is the people behind the projects that make it such a success and these awards are all about recognising their passion and talent,” Ms Caire said.

“The inaugural awards were hotly contested with quality nominations across the five categories, and the judges really had their work cut out for them selecting the winners.”

Property Council Queensland Division President Luke Fraser congratulated all nominees and said the standard of the award recipients showed the strength of the Queensland property sector.

“This year’s award recipients include Rikki Cooper who won the People First Award for her commitment to increasing employment opportunities for underrepresented groups, including Indigenous peoples, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and refugees,” he said.

“The work being done to improve environmental outcomes across the sector was also recognised with Abigail Heywood winning the Pathfinder Award for her work in trialing renewable diesel and electric construction equipment to reduce fossil fuel.

Mr Fraser said the awards also recognised the positive impact of the late Matthew Schneider with the Rising Star Award bearing his name.

“If the nominations for the Rising Star Award are anything to go by the future of the industry is in good hands, with this year’s winner Tim Winterflood epitomising the commitment of our future industry leaders,” Mr Fraser said.

“Team of the year went to Brisbane Housing Company, while Michael Rayner was awarded the Industry Impact Award.”

Ms Caire said the success of this year’s inaugural awards showed the passion and commitment of the local property sector.

“This year’s awards were a resounding success and the attendance, nominations and support shown by the property sector is a testament to their dedication and resilience,” Ms Caire.

“I look forward to seeing the awards grow in the future and have no doubt they will become a popular event on the Queensland events calendar for years to come.”
