Property Leaders Welcome Newly Elected Hunter Mayors and Councillors

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed newly elected mayors and councillors across the Hunter, acknowledging their vital role in addressing issues in planning, housing, and infrastructure delivery.

Property Council NSW Hunter and Central Coast Regional Director Amy De Lore said the election had brought significant change in local leadership with new mayors taking office in at least half of the region’s councils.

“This change comes at a pivotal time for the region, with significant opportunities to drive growth and investment,” Ms De Lore said.

“The Hunter is Australia’s largest regional economy, contributing over $60 billion in economic output, and to sustain this momentum it is essential we unlock more housing and industrial land supply.

“We’re facing significant population growth, and current constraints on transport infrastructure and serviceable land are holding back critical housing and employment land development.”

Ms De Lore said mayors and elected councils had the chance to fast-track infrastructure improvements and align local strategic plans to deliver more housing and jobs.

“The Hunter region is uniquely positioned for growth, with strong industries such as health, education, energy, defence and manufacturing, but we need the right policies in place to deliver the housing and jobs needed to support this growth,” she said.

“High-speed rail also presents a transformative opportunity for the Hunter. By improving regional connectivity, we can make the Hunter an even more attractive destination for residents and businesses, further strengthening our position as a leading regional economy.

“We look forward to working closely with mayors and councillors to ensure the region’s full potential is realised,” Ms De Lore said.
