Property Leaders Welcome New Central Coast Council

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the newly elected Central Coast Council, the first in four years, saying it looked forward to collaborating with the new leadership to address long-standing challenges in planning and development.

Property Council NSW Hunter and Central Coast Regional Director Amy De Lore said that with the council elections now over, the focus must shift to building momentum, improving the planning system, and capitalising on the region’s enormous investment potential.

The Central Coast is expected to experience significant population growth in the next 20 years and to meet this demand, there must be a strong pipeline of new homes and jobs.

“However, the region faces constraints around serviceable land, topography, and access to essential infrastructure, which have delayed much-needed housing and industrial developments.

“Everyone knows that planning has been a major issue on the Coast, and it’s clear the new Council has inherited a challenging situation.

“This fresh start is a unique opportunity for the new Council to reset, improve planning assessment processes and time frames, and work with industry to unlock the region’s full potential,” Ms De Lore said.

Ms De Lore said it was essential for the region to have faster planning approvals and a more strategic approach to land use.

“The Central Coast has the potential to attract significant investment, but we need to ensure the right policies are in place to enable growth, deliver more housing, and create jobs.

“We also need to prioritise increased supply of fit-for-purpose industrial land, particularly for key industries, and to improve transport connections, which are critical to supporting the region’s growth and reducing commute times.

“The Central Coast is at a crossroads. With the right leadership and policies, the region can emerge as a thriving hub for both residents and businesses. We’re ready to work closely with the new Council to help them deliver on their priorities and drive investment in the region,” she said.
