The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the announcement of new projects and infrastructure to support the delivery of more than 30,000 new homes to be funded by the NSW Government’s Accelerated Infrastructure Fund.
Property Council’s Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said since the abolition of the Local Infrastructure Growth Scheme there was concern about the capacity of councils to deliver high-cost infrastructure without additional state support.
“This has especially been the case in areas where it is not immediately feasible to pass on these costs to new homebuyers,” Mr Grove said.
“The Accelerated Infrastructure Fund is invaluable in meeting this challenge – we advocated for the retention of this fund in the last NSW Budget and welcomed its expansion across additional local government areas in Western Sydney.”
Mr Grove said this fund meant council infrastructure could be delivered at a similar pace to housing growth in greenfield development areas.
“With pressure on housing supply and increasing costs anticipated for the short to medium term it is critical that this fund be extended into the next NSW Budget.”
Round two of the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund supports road, drainage, parkland and stormwater projects across the local government areas of Blacktown, Camden, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Penrith and The Hills.
