Property Council welcomes next step in delivering missing middle

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the NSW Government’s launch of an interactive map, identifying exemplar case studies of low and mid-rise housing.

NSW Executive Director Katie Stevenson said, “industry applauds government for their continued efforts to address the state’s housing shortage and deliver a greater mix of housing types across NSW.

“This map invites community to observe the quality low and mid-rise housing that industry have already delivered and showcases the great outcomes that are possible in their own neighbourhoods.

“This is a positive indicator of government’s commitment to support the delivery of high quality and diverse housing as we address our critical housing shortage.

“We will continue to work with government to advocate for planning reforms that realise greater housing supply, greater choice and greater outcomes for the community,” Ms Stevenson said.

The Property Council were pleased to partner with Government Architect NSW on behalf of industry, along with the Australian Institute of Architects, Regional Architects Association and Planning Institute of Australia, to identify the well-designed homes our members have already delivered across metro and regional NSW.

NSW Government Architect Abbie Galvin said, “Our partnership with the Property Council on this project has been instrumental in developing this database of low and mid-rise housing projects that are already contributing to creating great neighbourhoods and providing greater housing choice across Sydney and the regions.

“Their members are known for their commitment to quality design and creating great places to live,” Ms Galvin said.

Hunter and Central Coast Regional Director Anita Hugo further acknowledged the benchmark projects that are already part of our regions and the significant contribution our regions make to the state’s housing solution.

“Addressing NSW’s housing shortage will take a state-wide approach and industry need to be supported to continue their development in our regions,” she said.

“It’s fantastic to see the Hunter on the map, recognising great design principles across the Greater Newcastle area. We look forward to working with our members and the Government Architects Office to populate this map with more great examples at a future opportunity,” Ms Hugo said.
