Property Council welcomes new funding for Parramatta Light Rail

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed today’s announcement from the New South Wales Government to provide additional funding for Stage 2 of Parramatta Light Rail (PLR).

In tomorrow’s NSW Budget, an additional $200 million will be provided to provide for route enhancements as the projects transitions toward planning approval in 2024.

Property Council’s Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said PLR Stage 2 was a must have for growth across multiple precincts spanning from Parramatta to Olympic Park.

“It is particularly pleasing to see this announcement given the longstanding advocacy and funding commitment for Parramatta Light Rail prior to the election,” Mr Grove said.

“Light rail will support the delivery of new homes and the movement of people across Parramatta, Camellia, Rydalmere, Melrose Park, Wentworth Point and Olympic Park.

“One of Sydney’s newest and most densely populated suburbs in Wentworth Point must be breathing a sigh of relief that the project – so far – is progressing.”

Mr Grove said the next big ask for Parramatta was Sydney Metro West.

“Successful light rail lines do their best work when they reach their juncture at major transport interchange sites and centres of activity, which is why it’s so important the new metro line stays on track,” he said.

“The Property Council’s Pre-Budget Submission makes a number of calls on government to invest in Western Sydney’s future growth potential, including reaffirming commitments to the existing infrastructure pipeline, while redeploying existing resources to bring forward the delivery of employment lands at the Western Sydney Aerotropolis to deliver more jobs locally.”
