Property Council welcomes move to improve the planning system

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the step from the NSW Government to improve and streamline the planning system.

Property Council’s NSW Executive Director Katie Stevenson said transferring 350 staff from the Greater Cities Commission and Western Parklands City Authority to the Department of Planning and Environment would reduce overlap and direct resources to priority areas.

“We applaud the government for following through quickly on this pre-election commitment and look forward to working with them as they tackle the housing supply challenge we face,” Ms Stevenson said.

“This move provides useful clarity to industry and consolidates planning functions under secretary Kiersten Fishburn which will deliver much needed efficiencies.”

Ms Stevenson said the NSW Productivity Commission had emphasised the need to increase housing supply through more effective planning delivery.

“This is a welcome step in the right direction.”
