Property Council welcomes funding for Melbourne Airport Rail Link

The Property Council has welcomed the Victorian Government’s announcement that it will match the Federal Government’s funding of the Melbourne Airport Rail Link and urges continued cooperation to deliver this vital infrastructure.

Property Council Executive Director (Acting), Matthew Kandelaars said that the announcement is a welcome step in Federal-State Government cooperation.

“An airport rail link has been an embarrassing omission for decades and it is pleasing to see the Victorian Government will jointly fund this project,” said Mr Kandelaars.

The Property Council has advocated for the rail link to deliver benefits to areas within the airport catchment, and to tap into the regional rail network.

“We are calling for a final decision on the route to be evidence-led and based on strong engagement with industry, noting the potential to unlock new corridors and employment precincts,” said Mr Kandelaars.
