The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the details released by the NSW Government to unlock a $300 million plan to fast-track the delivery of essential infrastructure and unlock tens of thousands of homes across the State.
Property Council of Australia’s NSW Executive Director Luke Achterstraat said it was great to see the NSW Government’s commitment to help Australian’s achieve home ownership and their commitment to vital infrastructure.
“There is no doubt we are experiencing a housing supply crisis in NSW which is putting a strain on affordability, both in terms of ownership and rentals,” Mr Achterstraat said.
“The emphasis on delivering infrastructure needs will lay the foundation to begin building quality homes and beautiful communities for the people of NSW.
“We are some 100,000 homes short of where we need to be in NSW so it is timely to support the private sector in getting on with the job and addressing our housing affordability crisis.”
Mr Achterstraat said the 41 councils experiencing high growth would greatly benefit applying for a share of the latest round of the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF).
“Helping our state through this program is a well-intentioned endeavour. For many Australians, their home is their most valuable financial asset so housing security can create financial security,” he said.
“It is also great to see regional NSW being included in this fund with 23 of the 41 councils being in the region, highlighting that housing issues are not just in the cities.”
