Property Council Welcomes Latest Land Audit Locations
The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the NSW Government’s ongoing efforts to identify and unlock surplus public land for much-needed housing.
Property Council NSW Deputy Executive Director, Anita Hugo, said the Government’s announcement of 30 new sites for market, social and affordable housing was another vital step in tackling the state’s housing crisis.
“We’re in a housing emergency so it’s encouraging to see government now picking up the pace to unlock surplus public land for housing. This is a positive step, particularly in key Sydney suburbs, and other vital areas of housing need including Newcastle and the Central Coast,” Ms Hugo said.
“The focus on partnership between government agencies like Landcom and the private sector is also encouraging and will be crucial to making sure these developments deliver the diverse housing options the community needs,” Ms Hugo said.
“Industry looks forward to working with government to inform and contribute to the development of these and other previously announced sites – only by working together can we have a chance of meeting our Housing Accord target to deliver more than 377,000 new homes by 2029,” she said.
Ms Hugo also welcomed the news that the government will begin construction on 194 new social homes on 16 further sites across the state owned by Homes NSW in key areas of need.
“It’s a clear expectation that publicly owned sites should be developed in a way that supports those in need, and industry is ready to be part of the solution,” she said.
