Property Council welcomes Federal airport rail money – says Feds and Victoria must be expert-led on best outcome
The Property Council has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that it will part-fund the Melbourne airport rail link. Our growing cities need Federal money to improve public transport and it is good to see the Federal Government take a seat at the table said Interim Property Council Executive Director, Mike Zorbas.
The need for an airport rail link is well understood and both governments have been in dialogue on the project since last year. The Property Council has long advocated for the rail link to deliver benefits to the growth areas adjacent to the airport and to tap into the regional rail network.
“This project is important to the people of Melbourne, to tourism and to investment and jobs in Victoria,” said Mr Zorbas.
“The State and Federal governments now have an opportunity to work with the experts to settle on the route and deliver this much needed transport connection.
“A successful link will help commuters and help unlock employment precincts beyond the airport.”
