Property Council welcomes 1,800 news homes zoned for North Parramatta

The Property Council of Australia has applauded the decision of the NSW Government to finalise planning arrangements for the Church Street North Parramatta precinct, after more than a decade of planning and consultation.

The precinct’s rezoning has the capacity to provide 1,800 new dwellings in mixed-use apartment buildings alongside the Parramatta Light Rail corridor.

“North Parramatta is one of the greatest opportunities to unlock Parramatta’s potential and deliver housing in a highly liveable location,” the Property Council’s Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said today.

“The precinct sits at the doorstop of the Parramatta CBD and enjoys immediate proximity to good public amenity such as Prince Alfred Park, CommBank Stadium, Church Street Eat Street and the Riverside Theatre. The precinct is highly walkable and connects future residents into some of the strongest offerings of Parramatta as a destination.

“Today’s rezoning means developers can get on with the job of renewing a precinct which after more than a decade of planning, consultation and deferral has become quite tired and worn down.

“Congratulations to Minister Scully and the team at the Department of Planning and environment on announcing a state-led rezoning and delivering it within the announced timeframe – it sends a strong message about the government’s intentions and preparedness to get the job done.”

The rezoning will come into effect from 1 July 2024. In the meantime, City of Parramatta Council will have the opportunity to update its Development Control Plan to ensure building controls are appropriate to the new development settings.
