Plan Needed Following MAX Uncertainty

Following the uncertainty around the future of MAX light rail, the Property Council is calling on the WA Government to finalise Perth’s public transport plan, which will unlock development projects in the city’s inner north.

Property Council Executive Director Joe Lenzo said “the uncertainty around public transport like light rail versus buses is causing serious delays for developments.”

“Expanding Perth’s public transport system is essential for the continued development of the city.”

“Property Council research reveals that uncertainty around government infrastructure provision like public transport can defer between $200 million and $1 billion from the State’s economy each year and constrains employment growth from anywhere between 448 jobs to more than 2000 depending on the development projects delayed.”

“The property industry supported the MAX light rail plan when it was first announced, but now that it is deferred the industry urgently needs a decision on the form and the route for the alternative plan.”
