NSW Budget delivers on infrastructure investment for a growing Illawarra Shoalhaven

Property Council of Australia has welcomed NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet’s fourth NSW Budget handed down today which has focused on delivering a strong infrastructure program, job creation and a targeted stimulus package to continue supporting the economic recovery of the state in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020-21 NSW Budget delivers infrastructure investment across the Illawarra Shoalhaven with key road and hospital upgrades receiving further funding to cater for future growth of the region.

“We congratulate Treasurer Perrottet on his fourth budget handed down today which delivers on the Government’s commitment to provide targeted stimulus measures to deliver infrastructure and increase jobs,” Property Council Illawarra Director Michelle Guido said today.

“We welcome the announcement of over $2 million for upgrades of roads across the Illawarra Shoalhaven, which includes $148.2 million to continue construction on the much needed Albion Park Rail Bypass and $102.5 million for the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade on the Princes Highway.

“The commitment to investment in our local hospitals is also welcomed including $10.1 million for the new Shellharbour Hospital and $4 million for the commencement of the Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment.

“Funding has also been allocated to continue planning for the Kiama to Bomaderry Rail Capacity increase, $2.4 million for Employment Land Activation in the Shoalhaven and $4.5 million for a Shoalhaven Sustainable Tourism Infrastructure package.

“Overall, the budget provides investment for roads, health and education in the right places to support new and growing communities – however we would like to encourage the NSW Government to continue investing in and expediting other important road and rail upgrades, for the region to improve connectivity, improving housing affordability and supply, as well continuing to support initiatives to boost economic activity and create more jobs.”
