Monash Green takes out ACT Development of the YearCanberra’s largest aged care provider, Goodwin Aged Care Services Limited, has been presented with the Property Council of Australia’s ACT Development of the Year Award.Goodwin, which operates four retirement living villages across the ACT, was recognised for its innovative approach to the Monash Green retirement living village in Tuggeranong.According to Property Council ACT Executive Director, Catherine Carter, the number of Canberrans over 65 is expected to more than double over the next fifty years – to 22.5 per cent by 2060. “We know Canberrans want to stay in the communities they know and love – and Monash Green is a stellar showcase of why downsizing to a retirement living village can mean upsizing in terms of amenity and quality of life,” Ms Carter says.”Monash Green provides an innovative lifestyle alternative that enables people to ‘age in place’ within their community, and provides impressive facilities that encourage health, activity and engagement,” Ms Carter adds.Monash Green was constructed over seven years, and is a predominantly low-rise village featuring a range of innovative design initiatives. Damming a dividing floodway between the original and new villages has created a lake of significant size – an attractive focal point. An extensive pedestrian path network and themed garden areas provide popular meeting places and promote health and activity. Community facilities – including a clubhouse, mini golf course, bowling green, café, hairdresser and other community services – are co-located for convenience. The 1 independent living units are complemented by a two-storey residential aged care facility providing 120 beds. The ACT Development of the Year is sponsored by Rider Levett Bucknall. Managing Director of RLB ACT Mark Chappe says that Monash Green sets a new benchmark for retirement living developments.”Monash Green combines smart technology and state-of-the-art design with a high level of service to help residents maintain their independence and get on with enjoying life. We congratulate the project team behind Monash Green for setting a new standard for retirement living not just in the ACT, but Australia-wide,” Mr Chappe concludes. The ACT Development of the Year Award, sponsored by Rider Levett Bucknall, was presented at the Property Council of Australia ACT awards night and gala ball at Parliament House on Friday 7 August.Monash Green also took out the national award for Best Retirement Living Development at the national 2015 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards in May.Media contact: Catherine Carter| M 0412 330 079| P 02 6248 6902
