Metro West key to support Sydney’s growth
The announcement of the prioritisation of Metro West by Opposition Leader Luke Foley is welcomed by the Property Council of Australia as an important initiative to support Sydney’s future growth and service our burgeoning Western City.
The growth that will be seen in Parramatta, Sydney’s second CBD, as well as Sydney Olympic Park and the Bays Precinct means we need quality, fast rail transport delivered as a priority.
“The current Government has delivered a record infrastructure spend and we are catching up on an infrastructure backlog in NSW, but to service emerging urban centres in our west and transport the growing population of western Sydney, the West Metro is a critical piece in the puzzle,” Property Council NSW Executive Director Jane Fitzgerald said today.
“The West Metro will activate urban areas in Sydney’s middle ring and service the Sydney Fish Market redevelopment and Bays Precinct. The Metro is also critical to ensuring Sydney Olympic Park continues to develop from a sporting precinct, into a vibrant commercial and residential hub.
“We are currently in the midst of our ‘infrastructure moment’ with record investment, good governance structures and strong business plans and strategic planning; the West Metro should be a key focus and prioritised for delivery to provide the equity of access to good transport across our city.
“We should move forward with the best advice from Infrastructure NSW and Transport for NSW and a thorough business plan to ensure such an important project is delivered outside of the political fray and with bipartisan support.”
