McConaghy cousins honoured for decades of achievement
With nearly 100 years of combined experience in the property sector, cousins Jim and Robert McConaghy were worthy recipients of the annual President’s Awardat the Property Council of Australia’s Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards last night.
The Property Council’s Queensland President, Kingsley Andrew, said it was fitting that Jim and Robert McConaghy were joint winners of the special accolade, which recognises individuals for outstanding achievement and remarkable contributions to the retail industry.
“Jim and Robert started business together in 1969, originally developing industrial property, before moving into shopping centres, with their first project in 1979 at Brassall in Ipswich,” Mr Andrew said.
“The McConaghys went on to complete 28 development projects over the ensuing 37 years, developing shopping centres across regional areas stretching from Port Macquarie to Townsville.”
“Today Jim and Robert own and manage twelve of these centres between them.”
Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council, Chris Mountford, outlined the strong commitment that the McConaghy’s have displayed to regional and rural areas where they have operated.
“Both Jim and Robert maintain involvement across all of their operations, including working closely with their 600 plus retailers. This close relationship, with retailers and local communities, has made the McConaghy businesses a great success story,” Mr Mountford said.
The Property Council of Australia’s Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards acknowledges the best in retail properties and precincts and celebrates the contribution of the industry to the broader community. The winners were announced last night at Brisbane City Hall with a record crowd of over 4 in attendance.
