Matthew Cunneen wins NSW/ACT RV Salesperson of the Year
Matthew Cunneen has worked in men’s fashion and even marketed professional dental products and equipment, but his true calling – as a sales manager in the retirement sector – is now being celebrated after being crowned the NSW/ACT Salesperson of the Year.
Aveo’s Mr Cunneen took out the top honour at the Property Council-Retirement Living Council (RLC) event at The Establishment in Sydney yesterday – a win dedicated to his late grandmother.
With two years’ experience under his belt as a sales manager, Mr Cunneen is responsible for running the largest Aveo portfolio in the NSW region, achieving sell-outs in two communities and more than 80 sales in that time.
Mr Cunneen presides over Minkara Resort and Bayview Gardens, in Bayview, as well as Pittwater Palms in Avalon Beach, and has a strong focus on involving the family and friends of soon-to-be retirement village residents to ensure a “seamless experience” when purchasing.
Minkara Resort residents Bill and Elizabeth Salzberg praised Mr Cunneen for his attitude and said they would recommend him to others looking to move into a retirement village.
“Since the change to Aveo Minkara resort was one of great importance to us, Matthew made it easier always being available with a friendly approach,” the couple said.
“We have no hesitation in recommending Matthew to any prospective buyer because we found him extremely professional and efficient with all facets of the business.”
Aveo Organisational Development Coordinator, Naomi Campbell, said Mr Cunneen had a soft and understanding approach towards retirees during this important phase of their lives.
“For Matthew, each transaction is unique. Driven by his commitment to deliver exceptional customer journey experiences, he focuses on understanding customers’ needs,” Ms Campbell said.
“He is never pushy and will not try to sell something if he knows it isn’t perfect.”
On stage yesterday, Mr Cunneen thanked residents and colleagues for their support.
(This award) means a lot to me, I’ve spent two-and-a-half years in the industry so far, so it’s actually gone by quite fast, but prior to that I did care for my grandmother for 11 years and she did pass last August,” Mr Cunneen said.
“So it means a lot to me… This is much mine as it is for her and I hope I can find more retirees to have a great quality of life like she did.”
RLC Executive Director, Daniel Gannon, congratulated Mr Cunneen on his win.
“Success in sales comes from genuinely caring about your customers’ needs, and the retirement living industry is all about helping people,” Mr Gannon said.
“Mr Cunneen has proved his ability to connect with retirees, and their families, as they progress to a new and exciting chapter in retirement living which we know has huge health benefits.”
Mr Cunneen – like all winners of regional awards over the coming months – will now go into the running to be crowned Australia’s Salesperson of the Year at the RLC’s National Retirement Living Summit in Brisbane in June.
