Majority Government

The Property Council of Australia today congratulated the Hon. Will Hodgman MP and the Liberal Party for achieving majority government.

“An overwhelming number of Tasmanian Division members support majority government as it ensures that a concise message regarding the state’s economic future is regularly articulated,” said Property Council of Australia, Executive Director – TAS, Brian Wightman.

The Tasmanian Division paused to acknowledge the untimely passing of former Attorney General, Dr. Vanessa Goodwin.

“Dr. Goodwin was a formidable opponent, particularly during budget estimates cross-examination.  She was also a remarkable person; highly intelligent, strongly admired and most respected across the political divide.  Our sincere condolences to her family and friends,” he said.

The Property Council looked forward to working with the re-elected State Government to implement several policy initiatives.

“We were pleased that stamp duty and land tax concessions along with the continuation of the first home builders’ grant were front and centre of election commitments.

“The Tasmanian Division also looks forward to super-charging the Population Growth Strategy with the incoming State Minister for Growth.

“But, top of the list remains the development of a TasWater Government Business Enterprise.

“The State Government has a clear mandate to implement a TasWater GBE.  The local government sector, Tasmanian Labor and the Legislative Council must reconsider their policy positions and allow this much needed reform to progress without delay,” he said.
