It’s time to release existing RAH site plansThe Property Council of Australia (SA Division) is renewing calls for the State Government to release its plans for the existing Royal Adelaide Hospital site. “The existing RAH site boasts one of Australia’s most exciting development opportunities – more than 21 hectares of CBD space on the riverfront,” said SA Executive Director Daniel Gannon. “But what we don’t have are firm plans for this site. “Previous discussions have included high schools and private hospitals, but it’s time to provide clarity for South Australians. “If neither of the prior options is being considered, let’s ignite the think tank and get the right result. “The Property Council has long advocated for sweeping redevelopment of the entire riverbank precinct from Hackney to Kent Town. This will create an entertainment and economic hub. “The existing RAH site is a critical opportunity to link the wider riverbank precinct to the city’s east end, and shore up economic vitality in that corner of the city. “The relocation of the RAH to its new site in will leave behind a significant parcel of vacated land and potentially a vacuum of economic activity. “This makes it essential to identify and attract a future use of the existing site that fills that economic vacuum. “For example, international education is a $15 billion industry in Australia and is our nation’s third biggest export. “The existing RAH site sits alongside two of our universities. “More international students mean more accommodation, which will drive demand for the property industry, which means a stronger economy and jobs.”
