Infrastructure WA strongly supported by property industry
The Property Council has confirmed its strong support for Infrastructure WA, in a submission lodged with the State Government today.
“The Property Council has long advocated for greater government focus on planning, prioritising and delivering infrastructure, and we are pleased to now formally express our support for the work this Government is doing to fulfil its Infrastructure WA election commitment,” said Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella.
“Delivery of quality infrastructure where and when it’s needed is a key enabler of economic and productivity growth, and improves the quality of life of communities. It is critical to making Western Australia competitive as a place to live and do business.
“Once Infrastructure WA is established, scarce infrastructure investment dollars will be able to be directed into projects that achieve greater productivity, value for money and alignment with stakeholder and community expectations.
“The Property Council particularly supports the proposed independence of Infrastructure WA, with a majority of non-government members on the board, supported by its establishment through legislation with direct transparent reporting to the Premier.
“The transparency, rigour and depoliticisation of infrastructure delivery that IWA will deliver is a significant improvement on the current siloed closed approach. Elevation of strategic infrastructure planning to a central position in government, with a direct link to the Premier, is critical if IWA is to be effective and productive. It will enable much more transparent and coordinated decision making and evaluation, and the Property Council strongly supports the approach being taken towards governance of IWA,” said Mr Iacomella.
In its submission, the Property Council has encouraged the State Government to commence IWA’s work immediately so that the momentum and support created so far is not wasted, noting that properly resourcing IWA appropriately will be critical to the success of the initiative.
The Property Council looks forward to further supporting the government as the project progresses.
