Industry supports Landgate privatisation

 

The Property Council supports the privatisation of WA’s land title registry as a budget repair measure but action must be taken to ensure the costs of buying or selling a property does not increase.  

“It is important that the privatisation results in more competition in the market for property information and that the public continues to have affordable access to the data to help homebuyers and tenants,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“It is also crucial that privacy of information is protected in the privatisation process, in a similar manner to other states that have gone through the process.

“The privatisation of WA’s land registry information is a reasonable response to WA’s Budget situation and the Government is encouraged to consider other opportunities to recycle state land and trading assets,” Mr Iacomella said.
