Industry applauds federal funding for job-enabling roads in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis
The Property Council of Australia has applauded the federal government’s decision to fund job enabling roads in Western Sydney as part of its upcoming federal budget.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King today released a statement committing $1.9 billion toward 16 road projects across Western Sydney.
The announcement includes $500 million for the Stage 2 Upgrade of Mamre Road, $400 million to deliver priority section upgrades for Elizabeth Drive, $100 million for rapid bus infrastructure and funding to progress the planning of the Eastern Ring Road and upgrade of Badgerys Creek Road South.
“After three years of industry advocacy, this federal funding changes the narrative for our industry,” the Property Council of Australia’s Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said today.
“For too long, turnkey investors would meet with development-ready landowners with great intentions, only to be put-off by a lack of certainty around when the enabling roads would be delivered.
“This funding – the largest package we’ve seen since the Airport location was confirmed a decade ago – changes the game for the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
“We still have more to do, and will continue to advocate for Luddenham Road and a commonsense approach to stormwater management in the Mamre Road Precinct.
“However, this money keeps the ball rolling and reflects the seriousness of the federal government in unlocking the jobs dividend of the taxpayer’s investment in Western Sydney infrastructure and supporting infrastructure.
“The decision to proceed with roads package for Western Sydney is a wise one which will support jobs and housing. It is a fair dinkum response to the recommendations of their Independent Expert Panel’s Review of Western Sydney Infrastructure, and we look forward to working with the state government to maximise the economic output of this investment.”
