Housing Focus for Olympic Park Master Plan Welcome

The Property Council of Australia today welcomed the start of the public exhibition for the Sydney Olympic Park (SOPA) Master Plan 2050, saying the Government was headed in the right direction with its focus on more diverse housing, public amenity and transport connections for the precinct.

Property Council Deputy Executive Director NSW, Anita Hugo said the Master Plan set out an ambitious vision for up to 25,000 additional residents over the next 25 years.

“This Master Plan has the potential to transform Sydney Olympic Park into a vibrant, mixed-use precinct that can help address Sydney’s growing housing emergency,” she said.

“Sydney Olympic Park is well-placed to deliver more homes close to jobs, transport, and services.

“It could be a critical step toward creating a balanced community with diverse housing options, public spaces, and facilities to meet the demands of future residents.

“We look forward to working with our members to take a close look at the details to make sure the Master Plan aligns with housing and infrastructure needs,” Ms. Hugo said.

Ms Hugo said the Property Council’s Precincts Week from 28 October to 1 November offered a unique opportunity for industry to hear more about the Master Plan, with SOPA presenting their plans and vision along with a question-and-answer session.

“This will be the first opportunity since the exhibition opened for industry to look under the hood of the Master Plan, ask probing questions and provide feedback direct to the SOPA decision-makers.

“Our week-long Precincts Festival brings industry leaders and government representatives together to discuss best practices in urban precinct creation, governance, and innovation.

“It starts today with an opening address from the NSW Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy John Graham MLC, followed by an expert industry panel discussion on the creation, governance and development of precincts,” Ms Hugo said.

The exhibition period for the Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2050 opened on Monday, 28 October 2024, with public submissions welcomed until 25 November 2024.
