Harry Triguboff and John Roberts inducted into Property Hall of Fame
Two visionaries who have made their mark on skylines both in Australia and around the world – Harry Triguboff AO and John C Roberts AO – were inducted into the Australian Property Hall of Fame on Friday.
The Property Council of Australia’s National President Mark Steinert said “both Harry Triguboff and John Roberts are giants in the property industry. They have made an outstanding and very tangible contribution to our cities, fundamentally improving how we deliver and innovate landmark projects. As an industry we celebrate their success, their drive and recognise their immense achievements building businesses that have created jobs, prosperity and strong communities for future generations of Australians.”
Harry Triguboff AO, the founder and managing director of Meriton Group, spearheaded the Australian apartment revolution. Since 1963, Meriton has built more than 60,000 apartments across Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast and has become Australia’s largest apartment developer.
“After settling in Australia, Harry drove taxis and operated a milk run before building his first block of apartments in 1963. His is the quintessential story of success through sheer hard work and a determination to do things his own way, which together have made Harry Australia’s biggest apartment developer,” Mr Steinert says.
“His vision has given young people an entry point into the housing market in convenient locations, and has changed Australia’s perception of the Great Australian Dream.
“Harry is an inspiration – for his business acumen, his generous philanthropic contributions and his drive.”
Triguboff became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1990 and an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1999 for his service to the community as a philanthropist and to the residential construction industry.
John C Roberts AO established Multiplex in 1962 as a small construction company in Perth. Multiplex quickly gained a reputation for delivering complex projects on time and on budget, before expanding into the leading international contractor, Brookfield Multiplex, as it is known today.
“John was a legend of the construction industry who delivered landmark projects from Emirates Tower in Dubai to the Sydney Olympic Stadium, flagship venue of the 2000 Summer Olympics. Personal relationships were the hallmark of John’s business style, and he was well-known for his enduring commitment to his employees,” Mr Steinert said.
“John was instrumental in building our industry’s international reputation for excellence, innovation, quality and an ability to ‘get the job done’.”
Roberts became an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 1988 for his contribution to the horse racing and construction industries, and passed away in 2006.
The Australian Property Hall of Fame was established in 2012 by the Property Council of Australia to honour individuals who have provided sustained leadership, made a major pioneering contribution, and have left an outstanding legacy to the property industry and the Australian community.
The induction ceremony took place as part of the 2015 Innovation and Excellence Awards at a gala dinner in Sydney on Friday 1 May.
