Hundreds of business, political and sports leaders will walk the ‘Green and Gold Runway’ at a major Property Council event in Brisbane today, ten years and one day out from the start of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The business lunch is being delivered in partnership with the 2032 Games event partners- Australian Government, Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, Council of Mayors (SEQ), Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia.

Featuring keynote addresses by Queensland Premier and Minister for the Olympics- the Hon. Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, the Federal Minister for Sport and Aged Care- The Hon. Anika Wells MP, Brisbane Lord Mayor- Cr Adrian Schrinner, President of the Australian Olympic Committee- Ian Chesterman AM, and Justin Davies, Director of Operations, Development at Lendlease, the event will showcase the economic and social opportunities the Games will spark for the region.

Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council, Jen Williams, said the event will send a clear message to Queensland’s business leaders that ‘now is the time to be bold’.

“On the eve of the ‘ten years to go’ celebrations, this event is about getting Queensland’s business leaders ready for this once-in-a-generation opportunity,” Ms Williams said.

“The ‘Green and Gold Runway’ reminds us there is a really important lead-up to the Games, that can supercharge Queensland’s economy, fast-track infrastructure and create a lasting impact while we celebrate our athletes in true Aussie fashion.

“Much like athletes need to prepare with diligence and focus, so too do our placemakers and decision-makers, who have this incredible opportunity to deliver ‘gold’ standard infrastructure and considered placemaking for the people of Brisbane and the broader region.

“This is a Games for us all, and success will depend on continued teamwork. We must harness each other’s knowledge and strengths to ensure we deliver outcomes that can make a real difference to people’s everyday lives,” she said.

Australian Olympic Committee President Ian Chesterman AM said the joint events like Friday’s lunch, foster an important partnership between the sport and business communities.

“Ten years may seem a little over the horizon, but in reality the next decade presents so many opportunities for sport and the community that can be enoyed well before the Opening Ceremony in 2032 and for a decade beyond,” Mr Chesterman said.

“Our timer really does start now, so we need to ensure we make the most of every opportunity to deliver benefits for locals and the country as a whole. From a sport perspective, importantly everything we do will deliver for athletes. The athletes will be at the centre of the Games,” Mr Chesterman said.

The event, being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, will also feature Olympian Brooke Hanson OLY OAM moderating a panel discussion with Olympic sailing gold medallist Tom King OAM OLY, Paralympians Torita Blake PLY (Para-athletics) and Taymon Kenton-Smith PLY (Recurve Archery), and Australian Junior Athlete, Jake Morris (Kayaking).

The luncheon will also raise funds for the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia athletes’ appeals.
