Government Land Sales WelcomedThe Property Council of Australia welcomes today’s announcement by Premier Colin Barnett and Lands Minister Terry Redman of 20 key government-owned land assets identified for sale.20 sites, including five hospital precincts, will put on the market under a program of property asset sales. The recycling of government land and property assets was a key recommendation in the Property Council’s pre-Budget submission and is something the organisation has been strongly advocating for since 2013 in light of the mounting debt faced by the Western Australian Government. The Property Council also welcomes the establishment of a Land Asset Advisory Group to provide ongoing advice on the sale of the Government’s land and property assets.Joe Lenzo, Property Council Executive Director said, “selling off land that is surplus to the needs of the Government will enable developers to regenerate and reactivate these areas.””These land sales will not only help to alleviate the State’s debt, but is enabling the creation of new, vibrant spaces for the Western Australian community.””A number of these sites are found in prime locations. Releasing them from government will only benefit the growth and development of Perth.””Now that the sites have been identified, we urge the Government to not delay in putting them up for sale. It is crucial that the Government acts with reasonable haste to take advantage of currently favourable land and property market conditions.”Media contact:Joe Lenzo, Executive Director: Property Council, (08) 9426 1200 or 0419 044 768 Rebecca Douthwaite, Policy Advisor: Property Council, (08) 9426 1200 or 0404 221 860
