‘Girls in Property’ program to encourage talented young women into the property industry

The Property Council of Australia will hold its first Girls in Property program in Victoria this week, paving the way for greater diversity within the industry.

A total of 52 female students from Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College, Melbourne Girls’ College, Mentone Girls’ Secondary College and Pascoe Vale Girls’ Secondary College will participate in the full day program to be held on 30 October.

The Property Council of Australia’s Victorian Executive Director, Cressida Wall, said the program aims to showcase the full breadth of career options in the property industry.

“The Girls in Property program is integral to ensuring young women have an understanding of the vibrant, diverse and fulfilling nature which a career in the property industry is able to provide,” said Ms Wall.

The program will provide students with the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge from inspiring industry leaders, from a broad range of property professions.

Hosted by ISPT, the morning session provides students with the opportunity to hear from a keynote speaker, a panel of industry professionals, followed by a speed networking session. The afternoon session involves a site tour at Melbourne Central hosted by The GPT Group, with staff providing insights into their own career paths and experiences.

The initiative is designed to encourage greater female participation in the property industry, reaching out to students to ensure the future supply of talent into the industry meets its growing needs.

The Property Council of Australia’s ongoing commitment to diversity will help in Victoria’s communities and cities to be shaped by a diverse range of perspectives.

Karen Money, Principal | Melbourne Girls’ College

”Many thanks to the Property Council for giving our young people the opportunity to immerse in an industry often seen as male dominated. Melbourne Girls’ College has always looked for opportunities to ensure gender equality in every sphere – this program continues that vision.”

Rachel Duggan, Regional General Manager | The GPT Group | Chair of the Property Council Diversity Committee

“The Girls in Property program is a wonderful initiative aimed at raising awareness of the wide variety of career opportunities available to young females, at a time when they are making these decisions – in high school.”

“I am keenly interested in ensuring the future pipeline of talent for years to come. The Property Industry is Australia’s biggest employer, yet it can often be overlooked by females when choosing a career path, as it can traditionally be viewed as offering roles only in construction or real estate.”

Not only do we have talented women with brilliant roles in these fields, but we offer thousands of dynamic and diverse career choices, and the opportunity to be a part of something bigger – building the communities and places that will shape our future in this country.”

“We hope the participants will walk away inspired to be involved in a fulfilling, challenging, diverse and dynamic industry. We want them to choose us. Choose Property. We guarantee that they won’t look back!”
