Exciting Times
It will be standing room only today at City Hall as Newcastle’s business community comes together for the Property Council’s August Hunter Lunch – Transforming Newcastle.
Event organizer and NSW Regional Director, Andrew Fletcher, said there was a growing sense of excitement since UrbanGrowth NSW released a range of opportunities aimed at guiding debate around the future of the city’s former heavy rail corridor.
“We’ve had unprecedented interest in today’s event and City Hall will be packed with corporate leaders eager to learn more about the community engagement process”
Mr. Fletcher said the keynote address would be delivered by UrbanGrowth’s Head of Urban Transformation, Simon Pagent, who would then be joined on stage by Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes for an audience Q&A session.
“There is great interest in hearing a more detailed explanation of the opportunities which UrbanGrowth NSW have released for community feedback”
“Everyone attending wants jobs growth and further economic development for the city.”
“The opportunities are there to be taken and it feels like Newcastle is on the cusp of great things to come.”
Mr. Fletcher said he had been contacted by numerous business leaders who had applauded the Lord Mayor for making herself available to give the Council’s perspective.
“There is no doubt Council needs to be a close partner of UrbanGrowth for many years to follow and clearly people want to hear more about their role from the Lord Mayor.”
“Mike Baird is on record as saying Council will have the final say on all proposals, so Council’s approach will be critical to achieving the Premier’s vision of making Newcastle Australia’s first regional city of the Asia Pacific.”
August Hunter Lunch – Transforming Newcastle, takes place at Newcastle City Hall from 12pm-2pm on Friday 14 August 2015.
