E-Planning making building easier

The Property Council of Australia congratulates Minister Dominello and Minister Stokes on yesterday’s announcement to mandate ePlanning across councils.

Property Council Regional Director Anita Hugo said this is a positive next step in implementing the Government’s commitment to make reform of the NSW planning system a priority for 2020.

“With the promising early results announced yesterday, ePlanning looks like it will help deliver a faster, more transparent NSW planning system – and that would be a great result all round,” Ms Hugo said.

“Time is money and ePLanning should save both once fully implemented with two key benefits – faster housing supply in the right locations and lower costs when building homes.”

The mandate will require councils to complete the following via the NSW Planning Portal:

• Commence use of all relevant digital services, including the lodgement of DAs, Complying Development Certificates (CDCs), and post-consent certificates;
• Process 100 per cent of all planning applications (DAs, CDCs and post consent certificates);
• Appointment of principle certifying authorities and issue certificates; and
• All new digital services with go-live dates to be determined in consultation with industry and councils.

The initiative will include Central Coast, Cessnock, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie councils with an industry reference group to be established to allow stakeholders to provide feedback on the roll-out of mandatory ePlanning.
