Don O’Rorke named as inaugural recipient of Queensland’s Legacy Award
Consolidated Properties Group boss Don O’Rorke has taken home the highly anticipated Legacy Award at the Property Council’s inaugural Queensland People in Property Awards Gala Night on 10 May.
Starting his career in the leasing division of CBRE, Mr O’Rorke has gone on to shape Queensland as CEO and Chairman of Consolidated Properties Group – a private company that has developed institutional grade, landmark commercial, retail and residential projects spanning Australia’s eastern seaboard and beyond (Japan & Indonesia).
Mr O’Rorke who served as President of the Property Council’s Queensland Division from 1997 to 1999, said the award was a testament to the work his team has done over the years.
“It’s a great recognition of what we have been able to achieve as team over a very long period of time. We are very fortunate to have a mixture of long term and short term employees, ensuring a great mix of stability and innovation,” Mr O’Rorke said.
“I think about business being a collaborative team-based enterprise, for us to create a project we need to bring together a really diverse group including Councils, great Architects, Hutchinson Builders and Financiers.
“That collaborative approach has seen significant parts of the landscape of Brisbane change and also parts throughout Australia.
“Our hard work is very permanent – when we build something, it’s there for a long time and it effects how people think about their city as they drive past it,” he said.
Property Council of Australia Queensland Division President Luke Fraser said Don O’Rorke is renowned for both his transformative developments and his leadership.
“Don is a true legend of our industry, his city shaping developments and impact across all sectors will be remembered for generations to come,” Mr Fraser said.
“He has had a huge impact on our city and state through his leadership and dedication to the industry which is felt two fold through his own company and his contribution through the Property Council.”
“Don represents the best of our industry and I am so delighted he will be the inaugural recipient of the Legacy Award,” he said.
The Property Council’s Queensland Executive Director Jess Caire said Don O’Rorke has left and is continuing to leave a lasting legacy on Queensland.
“Don is such a deserving recipient of the Legacy Award. Don epitomises all that makes our industry great, his calm and sensible approach sees him sought out by many for his sage counsel. It is a privilege to work with and learn from Don.” Ms Caire said.
“The Legacy Award celebrates the individual whose achievements and contributions to the industry will be remembered for generations to come,” she said.
