David Boggan wins SA/NT RV Manager of the Year

In a former life, David Boggan was general manager of multiple private members’ clubs across the country – including a stint at The Gatwick Club in London – but today, he is the new SA/NT Village Manager of the Year.

Mr Boggan’s strong background in high-end hospitality management cemented a seamless transition to ICAM’s Langton Park Retirement Village as its manager.

Since entering the industry in May 2023, Mr Boggan has been the spearhead for meaningful change, leading Langton Park Retirement Village to become Australian Retirement Village Accreditation Scheme (ARVAS) accredited – the first compliance of its kind in 31 years.

Mr Boggan oversees a team that cares for 137 residents across 110 homes and his leadership has been characterised by “meticulous planning, organization, and execution of the necessary policies and procedures have ensured the village operates efficiently and complies with industry standards”.

ICAM nominated Mr Boggan for SA/NT Village Manager of the Year, describing him as a person who “creates a culture of learning and collaboration”.

“David understands the importance of self-care in maintaining high performance, frequently reminding himself and his team that there are no ‘stupid questions’. Individuals feel safe to express concerns and seek guidance. He promotes regular movement and breaks for himself and staff to promote wellbeing,” ICAM’s nomination said.

Mr Boggan has consistently provided exceptional outcomes at Langton Park Retirement Village by embracing change and fostering innovation. Recognizing the need for improved communication and efficiency, he introduced new employee meetings that facilitate collaboration among staff and residents.

In front of 100 of his industry peers in Adelaide, Mr Boggan claimed his award and said he was shocked.

“I feel fantastic but very, very nervous and usually I’m a relatively fearless person,” he said.

“What it means is an acknowledgement of my team, my parents, my brother Paul who I lost last year, and all those village managers our there that do great work every day.”

RLC Executive Director, Daniel Gannon, congratulated Mr Boggan on his win.

“Mr Boggan is a passionate village manager whose thirst for learning and improving benefits the residents he cares for every day,” Mr Gannon said.

“His skills are top-shelf, and his capability to manage complex governance procedures and infrastructure projects is one of the reasons why Langton Park is successful and residents are happy.”

Mr Boogan – like all winners of state awards – will now go into the running to be crowned Australia’s Village Manager of the Year at the RLC’s National Retirement Living Summit in Brisbane in June.
