CONSTRUCTION READY TO ROLL AS FULL REOPENING ALLOWED

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the early reopening of the construction industry and removal of workforce reductions and restrictions on all building and construction sites from 11.59pm this Thursday 21 October.

The Victorian Government has confirmed that all construction projects can return to 100% capacity onsite with a workforce that has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or received one dose of a vaccine and are booked in to receive their second dose by Friday 13 November.

Victorian Executive Director Danni Hunter said the lifting of restrictions followed extensive engagement by the Property Council to ensure the sector could reopen at full capacity.

“The Property Council has worked tirelessly with our industry partners and Government throughout the shutdown to keep our workforce and the community safe, and to get projects back up and running,” Ms Hunter said.

“With Victoria’s vaccination rates now accelerating and ahead of expectations, it is the right time to bring forward the reopening of the construction sector so the industry can get back to work at full speed and start to really power the state’s economic recovery.

“It is now up to the whole industry to ensure the highest compliance standards possible to ensure the sector can continue to operate safely as we move beyond lockdown and into the reopening phase as a broader community.

“With over 300,000 Victorians employed in the construction sector, getting this industry back to work means Victorian jobs are protected and we can keep delivering projects that build houses, new communities and new places for Victorians.”
