No time to waste in rolling out essential housing infrastructure
The Property Council has welcomed applications opening for the State Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund (RAF).
Property Council Queensland Executive Director Jess Caire explained that there was no time to waste in rolling out critical infrastructure to enable much needed housing development.
“Delivering essential trunk infrastructure is costly, but an absolute necessity in unlocking more housing supply, sadly the investment in this catalytic infrastructure has lagged behind the needs of our growing state,” Ms Caire said.
“This investment is a huge step in the right direction, but there is more work to be done in regard to aligning infrastructure with land use planning to ensure we are unlocking new supply where it is most needed.
“The latest ABS dwelling approval data revealed that while Queensland is improving in terms of dwelling approvals, we still have plenty of ground to make up if we wish to get anywhere near our housing targets.
“Initiatives such as the RAF go straight to the heart of the issue in unlocking new supply – cost.
“However, there is no one solution for this multi-faceted issue and we will continue to advocate for further practical policy solutions that build upon today’s welcome announcement.
“Working together is the only way we can make inroads into responding to the housing crisis,” Ms Caire said.
