Property Council has announced the launch of its CBD VIP campaign, a four-week competition aimed at increasing foot traffic for Perth’s inner-city businesses.
Running from Monday 2 May to Friday 27 May, there will be entry points across Perth’s CBD where visitors and commuters can enter by scanning a QR code. These entries will go in the running to win a weekly prize worth over $9,000 and a grand prize worth over $26,000. The total competition prize pool is more than $60,000.
All prizes were donated and include a mix of vouchers from Perth CBD retail and hospitality businesses, free gym passes, free parking, free public transport, and WA tourism experiences.
In launching the campaign from Brookfield Place today, WA Property Council Executive Director Sandra Brewer welcomed recent announcements from the State Government which led to the removal of COVID restrictions and provided a much-needed confidence boost to the health of the CBD economy.
“The significant reduction in restrictions is a strong sign that Western Australians can now safely resume normal routines as we had before COVID-19,” Ms Brewer said.
“The State Government has delivered us the soft landing, now we need to make the most of it by welcoming people back into Perth’s CBD.
“The property industry has proudly provided consistent support for businesses in the CBD during the pandemic, including rental relief. The industry’s investment in the CBD VIP campaign signals the strong intention by property owners and managers to do all they can to help their tenants thrive and contribute towards a vibrant, active city.
“This Friday, we can applaud the dropping of indoor mask rules and the removal of many other restrictions on hospitality venues. What better way to celebrate than by coming back to the office, reconnecting with colleagues, and supporting the small businesses and service providers who have had a rough ride over the past two years.
“We’re encouraging all businesses in the CBD to get behind this campaign. Visit the website, find one of the many CBD VIP points around the city, or reach out to the Property Council team to add your business as a participating location so you can share in the fun,” Ms Brewer concluded.
Comments attributable to Minister for Housing; Lands; Homelessness; Local Government and Member for Perth Minister John Carey:
“Whether it be our nation-leading third dose vaccination rate, or following the health advice during the current Omicron wave, Western Australians should be proud of how they continue to pull together to get our State through this pandemic.
“There has never been a work from home requirement in place and the State has long been encouraging workers to come back to the city.
“We really want to see employers getting their staff back into the office.
“My message to city workers and their employers is simple – you are what makes the city a vibrant and active place to be, and when you head out for lunch, dinner or after work drinks, you drive the local economy and create jobs.
“The CBD VIP Campaign will complement all of the other initiatives being delivered to drive new energy and life into the city, including the State Government’s recent announcement of grants of up to $100,000 for events within the CBD and Northbridge.
“The State is proud to be a partner in the CBD VIP Campaign, and I want to acknowledge the Property Council for their advocacy in encouraging people back to the city,” Mr Carey concluded.
Comments attributable to City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas:
“The lifeblood of our city is its people and it’s time for our city to get its people back.
“The best place to work from is the office – and now that the masks are off, city workers can return with confidence and without inconvenience.
“Come back to work, support your favourite café, lunch bar and retailer – and support your city. It’s on all of us.
“The City of Perth is delighted to be partnering with the Property Council WA and the State Government to offer a range of incentives to help people turn our soft landing into a hard take-off for the Perth CBD.”
Weekly prize winners will be announced each Friday afternoon, with a campaign wrap up to be held on Friday 27 May from 12pm where the ultimate CBD VIP winner will be announced.
