Canberra retirement living home takes out national awardCanberra’s largest aged care provider has been presented with a national award at the 2015 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards. Goodwin Aged Care Services Limited, which operates four retirement living villages across the ACT, won the Lend Lease Award for Best Retirement Living Development for its Monash Green Retirement Village.”Monash Green is an impressive development that underscores why downsizing can mean upsizing in terms of amenity, liveability and community engagement,” says the Property Council of Australia’s Chief Executive, Ken Morrison.”We know that the number of seniors wanting to live in retirement villages will double by 2025 – rising to 382,000 nationally. Innovative developments such as Monash Green provide people with alternatives that can help them stay within the community they love, and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle for longer.” Constructed over seven years, Monash Green is a predominantly low-rise village with a number of simple but effective design initiatives. Damming a dividing floodway between the original and new villages has created a lake of significant size – an attractive focal point. An extensive pedestrian path network and themed garden areas provide popular meeting places and promote health and activity. Community facilities – including a clubhouse, mini golf course, bowling green, café, hairdresser and other community services – are co-located for convenience. The 1 independent living units are fully adaptable to facilitate ageing in place, while the two-storey residential aged care facility provides 120 beds.Managing Director of RLB ACT, Mark Chappe, says Monash Green sets a new benchmark for retirement living developments, “combining smart technology and innovative design with a high level of service enables residents to maintain their independence, remain active in the community and enjoy life.””We have partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present this outstanding awards program since its inception in 1982, and are delighted to recognise and reward the best developments again in 2015,” Mr Chappe concludes. The 2015 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Award winners were announced at a gala dinner on Friday 1 May.
