Born-and-bred Canberran named property future leaderKatrina Povey, Senior Design Consultant with professional services firm GHD, has been named the property industry’s ACT Future Leader of the Year for 2015. Povey has worked in Canberra’s construction industry for seven years, progressing from a graduate interior designer to a professional design consultant on internationally-recognised projects. “A born-and-bred Canberran, Katrina takes great pride in contributing to the growth of the nation’s capital and is now taking her skills around the world,” says Property Council ACT Executive Director Catherine Carter. “The award judges were impressed with the outstanding projects on Katrina’s CV, including the Australian Consul General office in Noumea, the Etihad First Class Lounge in Abu Dhabi and the refurbishment of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation office right here in Woden,” Ms Carter says. A senior member of GHD’s architecture and interior design team, Povey is a devoted industry volunteer, and currently chairs GHD’s Young Professionals group. In this role, she supports professional development opportunities for colleagues while honing her own leadership skills. Povey is also actively involved with the Property Council, and contributes to the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and Consult Australia. “Katrina places a high emphasis on industry participation, and demonstrates how technical excellence and industry know-how are interconnected,” Ms Carter says. “A working mother juggling a busy role and twin pre-schoolers is no mean feat, but Katrina brings a positive attitude, passion and persistence to each day, and we are thrilled to recognise her hard work and commitment to the industry. “Karina is shortly to take her skills and expertise on a more permanent basis to Abu Dhabi, where she will take on a new role with GHD, managing high-end, high-budget commercial and residential projects. It was the unanimous view of the judging committee that Karina’s future looks bright.” The ACT Future Leader of the Year Award, sponsored by King & Wood Mallesons, was presented to Katrina Povey at the Property Council of Australia ACT awards night and gala ball at Parliament House on Friday 7 August 2015.
