Boost population to drive job creation and economyThe Property Council of Australia will turn its focus to boosting South Australia’s population in order to drive job creation and economic growth. “The reality is that population growth is a key driver of economic growth and job creation,” said SA Executive Director Daniel Gannon.”And when talk turns to state investment, we shouldn’t frame the conversation only in terms of profits – we also need to frame the conversation around people. “One of our best assets and exports is our people and our thinking, so we need to reframe the public conversation. “One of my key goals is to help simplify South Australia’s complex and cumbersome administrative migration processes – if we can do this, we’ll go a long way to attracting more skilled migrants to our state. “We’ve got a nine point plan in place to boost our state’s population, which in turn will grow our economy and create jobs.”If we fail to recognise that people are one of our core assets, then we’re allowing other jurisdictions to capitalise by taking our people, taking our innovation and taking our tax revenue. “Let’s not forget that economic growth is closely aligned to population. “If we need to think about installing skilled migration and population targets, then let’s put that on the table and have a genuine discussion about it. “And this is where net interstate migration comes into the equation – it’s time we seriously addressed the reasons why our best and brightest are leaving our great state. “It’s time we turned that trend around.”
