Bipartisan commitment to planning reform welcomed

The Property Council has congratulated the Government and Opposition on setting aside their political differences in order to progress Queensland’s important planning reform agenda.

Both parties have a shared desire to see Queensland as home to Australia’s best planning and development assessment system, and by working together, we are now able to move one step closer to achieving this admirable target, according to the Property Council of Australia.

“In May the Government announced its proposed planning reform pathway which included a plan to introduce new legislation later this year. At the same time the Opposition was looking to move forward with legislation it had developed during it’s time in government, by introducing Private Members Bills,” says Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council, Chris Mountford.

“Having two planning reform processes underway at the same time has led to confusion for stakeholders as they seek to understand how the processes interact with one another.”

Parliament will now consider legislative reform options put forward by the Government and Opposition at the same time later this year.
