Award-winning Winyu House showcases new way of working

A state-of-the-art government office project in Gungahlin has picked up the ACT’s top property honour.

Building owner and developer KDN Group was presented with the Property Council of Australia’s RLB ACT Development of the Year award at a cocktail reception this evening.

Winyu House is the first A Grade commercial office building to be built in the Gungahlin Town Centre and is fully leased by the ACT Government.

“The result of a unique collaboration between the ACT Government, owner KDN Group and project manager Lendlease, Winyu House presents a new procurement and delivery process for office accommodation in the ACT,” says the Property Council’s ACT Executive Director, Adina Cirson.

“Winyu House showcases a new way of working and stacks up against office accommodation found in other markets like Sydney and Melbourne,” Ms Cirson adds.

The building incorporates more than 10,000 sqm of commercial office space, 200 car parking spaces, ground floor retail, conference facilities, an integrated child care centre and a government shopfront.

Accommodating 700 staff, Winyu House features an impressive open central atrium space with a glass skylight linking all four levels.

“The sustainability features at Winyu House are impressive, and include intelligent lighting, a 74kW solar array that feeds energy back into the building and a sophisticated stormwater treatment system,” says RLB’s Managing Director, Mark Chappe.

RLB provided cost management and quantity surveying services on the project.

“The modern, open plan design of Winyu House sets new standards for ACT Government accommodation and is the benchmark for new office buildings underway in Civic and Dickson,” Mr Chappe adds.

The ACT Development of the Year award is part of the national 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program. RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.

Winyu House is also competing in two award categories at the national awards – the SAS International Award for Best Office Development and the Equiem Award for Project Innovation. The national awards will be held in Sydney on Friday 11 May.
