Attention must now turn to job creationThe Property Council of Australia and the State Coalition to Repeal the Parking Tax welcome yesterday’s news that the CBD car park tax has been scrapped – the focus must now immediately turn to job creation and economic growth. “The news that the car park tax has been scrapped is great news for the property and construction industry, CBD business owners, workers and the broader South Australian community,” said SA Executive Director of the Property Council Daniel Gannon.”Not only that, but it’s great news for job creation and economic growth. “For almost two years now, the Property Council and State Coalition to Repeal the Parking Tax have vigorously campaigned against the introduction of this tax. “And it’s for this reason that the Property Council and State Coalition to Repeal the Parking Tax extend our appreciation to those involved in the decision taken today in the Legislative Council. “We’ve made no secret of our belief that a car park tax will damage CBD vibrancy and our state’s economic growth. “At a time when property investors and business owners are doing it tough, South Australians need encouragement to help grow the economy. “Right now, CBD business owners need to be encouraged to create jobs and grow our state’s economy, not discouraged. “On a number of fronts, the State Government has successfully driven its vibrancy agenda in the CBD through its laneway activation program. “However, the proposed car park tax – if implemented – would’ve been a step in the wrong direction with CBD investment suffering. “This is great news for the property and construction industry, but attention must now immediately turn to job creation and economic growth.”
