Airport milestone underscores the need for rail certainty

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the progression of major earthworks at Western Sydney Airport, noting the need to finalise route alignment on the Sydney Metro Greater West if the government is to meet its target to have rail connectivity to the airport from day one.

“We are incredibly pleased with the progress being made at the airport construction site,” Property Council of Australia Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said today.

“We welcome confirmation from the Federal Government that the project is on-track for an opening in 2026, and in order to ensure there is rail connectivity from day one the industry needs to know what the new rail alignment is and where the stations will go as a matter of priority.

“The Western Sydney City Deal as agreed to by Federal, State and local government stipulates that the airport will be connected to rail from the beginning of its operations.

“Confirmation of the rail connection is essential to giving our industry the confidence we need to invest in the surrounding aerotropolis precinct, which promises to be a destination for high-tech industry, jobs and agri-business.

“The Property Council and its members are finalising our submissions to the Western Sydney Aerotropolis Plan and many of us are looking for greater certainty around the rail corridor. We look forward to continuing to work with the NSW Government to maximise the economic benefits of the airport to the surrounding aerotropolis and the region as a whole.”
