Property Council welcomes appointment to Urban Policy Forum
The Property Council of Australia has today welcomed the appointment of Chief Executive, Mike Zorbas, to the Australian Government’s Urban Policy Forum.
The establishment of the Forum was announced in the recent 2023-24 Federal Budget and will have input to the development of the government’s National Urban Policy.
Property Council Chief Executive Mike Zorbas said the Forum has a crucial role to play in addressing urgent challenges facing our cities and suburbs.
“The time is right for governments, industry and experts to plan better transport, social infrastructure and housing outcomes to support welcome skilled migration and our growing communities,” Mr Zorbas said.
“We need a plan to provide well designed, sustainable medium-density living choices supported by great public transport across our capital and regional cities.
“Cities are our engines of opportunity. They are magnets for talent, innovation, investment and, ultimately, prosperity.
“The current national housing crisis demands a concerted effort to ensure we have a secure supply of well-located housing to match population growth, supported by the timely provision of social infrastructure.
“I thank Minister Catherine King for the appointment and look forward to working with Chair Professor Barbara Norman and esteemed colleagues to address these challenges,” he said.
